Cover & Claim Scenarios
Buildings Insurance covers the items that are fixed to and form part of the building so wouldn’t normally be taken when moving house for example a shed, a fitted wardrobe, built in appliances or hardwood floors. Contents Insurance covers ‘moveable’ items such as ornaments, free standing furniture or clothing.
To know the level of buildings cover that is right for your client, you’ll need to know the cost of rebuilding their home. This can normally be found on the lender's valuation or can be provided by a surveyor. The rebuild cost of the home isn’t the same as the purchase price of your home; neither the price they paid or the price they'd sell it for.
Items made of precious metal or precious stones, jewellery, watches, furs, curios and works of art, computer equipment, money or portable electrical devices other than a television or radio. If they’re not specified on the certificate of insurance we’ll pay up to £2,000 per item. We’ll pay up to £15,000 for valuables within the home if they’ve been specified.
If an item has been damaged and cannot be economically repaired, we’ll replace it with a new one of similar quality.
Yes, as long as the property hasn't been left unoccupied for more than 60 days in a row.
If your client’s home is made uninhabitable by an event such as a fire, we’ll pay for agreed accommodation expenses, including any pets, until the home is restored to normal living conditions. If they’ve Buildings Insurance we’ll provide up to 15% of the buildings sum insured and up to £10,000 if they have Contents Insurance.
With our Contents Insurance any office equipment used for business in the home is covered if your client or a member of their family works from home.
Our Optional Extras
Accidental Damage
Unintentional damage to buildings, including fixtures, fittings, drains, pipes, cables and underground tanks providing services to or from the home. This includes accidental pipe blockages or damage caused by digging too deep in the garden. We’ll also provide cover for unintentional damage to the property such as nailing through a pipe when putting a picture on the wall or putting a foot through the ceiling when up in the loft
Visible damage which happened due to an unintentional event such as the television being accidentally knocked of its stand.
Personal Posessions
We cover up to £500 for loss of personal money and up to £500 for the unauthorised use of credit cards.
We cover mobile phones against accidental loss or damage inside the home and outside the home anywhere in Europe and for up to 60 days, within a 12 month period, whilst traveling anywhere in the world. Any mobile phone worth more than £250 should be specified.
Home Emergency
A sudden and unexpected event which, if not dealt with quickly would render the home unsafe or insecure, damage or cause further damage to the home, cause personal risk to your client or cause a health and safety risk to others.
Home Emergency Cover won’t affect their no-claims-discount if they make a claim. Should your client need to make a claim under the buildings and/or contents section of their policy following the home emergency being resolved, this would affect their no claims discount.
There’s no excess to pay. Should your client’s need to make a claim under the buildings and/or contents section of your policy following the home emergency being resolved, an excess may apply.
Legal Expenses
We’ll pay their legal costs up to £100,000 provided it’s not a disciplinary hearing, internal grievance or if the dispute relates solely to a personal injury relating to their employment.
They can make a claim when their salary/wages aren’t covered by the court or their employer.
